Editorial Standards & Data Methodology

Everything on this site is either data we collected and verified ourselves, or analysis we wrote from it. This page explains exactly how — what we source, how we check it, what we don't know, and how to get something corrected.

Who Runs This Site

Rage Room Near Me is an independent, self-funded directory. It is not owned by, operated by, or invested in by any rage room chain, booking platform, or venue. We built it because there was no single reliable place to compare rage rooms in the US — every existing list was either a scraped business dump or a venue's own marketing.

Editorial questions, corrections, and data enquiries all go to one address: hello@rageroomnearme.org.

Where Our Data Comes From

Every listing is built from public, primary sources — in this order of precedence:

  1. The venue's own website and booking system. This is our highest-trust source and where pricing, package contents, session durations, and age policies come from.
  2. Public business listings (name, address, phone, coordinates, opening hours, aggregate rating and review count).
  3. Publicly visible customer reviews, used only to code sentiment patterns — never republished verbatim.

We do not copy descriptions, listings, or editorial content from other directories. Where a venue has no website of its own, we say so on the listing rather than filling the gap with guesses.

How a Venue Gets Verified

A business only enters the directory after passing each of these checks:

  • It exists and is operational. Permanently closed businesses are removed, not archived as live listings.
  • It actually offers the activity. A bar that once hosted a smash event is not a rage room. We read the venue's own site to confirm the activity is a standing offer.
  • It is classified by activity — rage room, paint room, axe throwing, car smash, escape room, VR — based on what the venue itself advertises.
  • Its location resolves to a real address and coordinates that match the stated city and state.

Businesses that fail classification are logged and re-checked rather than silently dropped, so the same venue isn't repeatedly re-added by mistake.

How We Handle Pricing

Pricing is the hardest field to get right and the one most likely to be wrong on other directories. We extract packages directly from venue websites and booking systems, capturing package name, per-person and flat prices, capacity, and session duration where each is published.

Each venue carries a pricing confidence level. Where we could not find published pricing, we show that plainly instead of inventing a range. All prices are list prices, exclude promotions and taxes, and change without notice — always confirm with the venue before booking.

How We Analyse Reviews

We code each venue's publicly visible reviews into structured signals rather than reprinting them. Dimensions include staff quality, value sentiment, cleanliness, room size, session length, catharsis, repeat visits, and specific negative flags such as worn safety gear.

These describe the patternin a venue's feedback, not a tally of individual reviews, and they are a summary of what customers said — not our own assessment of the venue. We have not visited most of the venues we list, and we don't claim to have.

Our Written Guides

Everything in our guides section is written in-house. Statistics quoted in them come from our own dataset, and we state the denominator whenever a figure is drawn from a subset (for example, only 191 of 300 venues publish a session duration).

Where we cite outside research — such as the psychology literature on catharsis — we describe what the research found rather than overstating it, including where it contradicts how the industry markets itself. We would rather publish an inconvenient finding than a flattering one.

Independence and Money

  • Listings are never sold. No venue can pay to be included, to rank higher, or to have a competitor removed.
  • Rankings are not for sale. Ordering is driven by relevance, distance, and rating — never by payment.
  • Advertising is clearly separate. The site may display third-party ads. Ads are labelled as such by the ad network and have no influence on listings or editorial content.
  • Corrections are free. Fixing a venue's data has never required and will never require a payment.

Updates and Freshness

Listing data is re-checked on a rolling basis, with pricing and operational status prioritised because they change fastest. Guides carry a publication date and are revised when the underlying data moves enough to change the advice.

We will not always be current. Rage rooms open, close, move, and reprice frequently, and a directory of this size will always contain some stale fields. That is why every page tells you to confirm with the venue.

Corrections Policy

If something here is wrong, we want to know — whether you're a customer, a venue owner, or just someone who noticed. Email hello@rageroomnearme.orgwith the page URL and what's incorrect.

  • Closed venues and safety issues are treated as urgent and actioned first.
  • Venue owners can correct any field on their own listing, or request removal entirely.
  • Substantive corrections to guides are noted on the page rather than quietly edited.

What We Don't Do

  • We don't take bookings or handle payments. Every booking link goes to the venue or its own booking platform.
  • We don't publish user-submitted reviews, so there is nothing here to astroturf.
  • We don't auto-generate written guides from templates. If a page has prose on it, a person wrote it.
  • We don't claim to have visited venues we haven't.
